Fact: when used topically, it takes less than a minute for essential oils to enter the bloodstream. If on larger pores, like the feet, about half a minute. From there, in less than half an hour, they are in every cell in your body.
In case you missed it in our purity post, here are the facts:
One drop contains approximately 40 million-trillion molecules. Numerically that is a 4 with 19 zeros after it: 40,000,000,000,000,000,000.
We have 100 trillion cells in our bodies, and that's a lot. But one drop of essential oil contains enough molecules to cover every cell in our bodies with 40,000 molecules.
Okay, so what do they do? Well, they surround the cell and cleanse the receptor sites, helping the body maintain its homeostasis. Scientists are actually pretty divided on whether or not they can cross through the cell wall and into the cell. Some say yes, certainly. Others say, not so much.
As with all new explorations in science, we are just now dedicating time and research to this important subject. A decade from now, this information will be common knowledge. But for today...it is up for debate. I don't claim to know the answer, but I do believe it is well within reason that plant matter so tiny it can cross into the brain through the blood-brain barrier ---- which is as difficult and near impossible a prisoner breaking out of Alcatraz --- can cross in through cell walls.
Where do you apply them? Well...anywhere. I have had oils on every part of my body at one time or another. Don't worry about diagrams of where this should go and what body part corresponds to what.
It is nice to know about vita flex points. But it isn't necessary. Just get the oil on your body. It knows what to do.
Example: if I am working out and my muscles are sore, I can put oils on them to help my body relax those muscles. But you know what? If I put the essential oils on my arm, they would still benefit my sore legs.
I know this goes against everything you have grown up knowing. Just trust me. The oils will go into the bloodstream wherever you decide to put them and they will help support your efforts at health and wellness.
You could use them with coconut oil, or another full fat healthy oil (for all that is holy, do not use canola or some other inferior oil --- these are nothing more than chemicals holding hands and you deserve better than this!) and use them as a massage oil. You can put most of them undiluted on directly on the skin.
How do you know if you can? Some oils are hot to the skin...think spicy skin. Best to look it up on the internet or grab a reference guide.
You could take a bath with them. Simply grab a large handful of epsom salts, put several drops of essential oil on the handful and swish into a bath. Again, use a reference or the internet for great recipes.
Remember, whatever you put on the skin will be taken in with the essential oil into the bloodstream.
Do not put petroleum jelly, lotions, or other synthetic products on the skin.
